Ten Commandments for Your Computer Sanity

1. Dont assume anything. Make some time to learn about securing your system.

2. Acquire and use a reliable antivirus program. Select an antivirus that has a consistent track record. Checkmark, AV-Test.org and TuV are among the most respected independent testers of antivirus software.

3. Acquire and use a reliable firewall solution. Again, independent reviewers are your best bet for reasonable choices. Some operating systems come with a firewall which only filters incoming traffic. Use a firewall that can control both incoming and outgoing Internet traffic.

4. Do not open e-mails coming from unknown or distrusted sources. Many viruses spread via e-mail messages so please ask for a confirmation from the sender if you are in any doubt.

5. Do not open the attachments of messages with a suspicious or unexpected subject. If you want to open them, first save them to your hard disk and scan them with an updated antivirus program.

6. Delete any chain e-mails or unwanted messages. Do not forward them or reply to their senders. This kind of messages is considered spam, because it is undesired and unsolicited and it overloads the Internet traffic.

7. Avoid installing services and applications which are not needed in day-by-day operations in a desktop role, such as file transfer and file sharing servers, remote desktop servers and the like. Such programs are potential hazards, and should not be installed if not absolutely necessary.

8. Update your system and applications as often as possible. Some operating systems and applications can be set to update automatically. Make full use of this facility. Failure to patch your system often enough may leave it vulnerable to threats for which fixes already exist.

9. Do not copy any file if you don't know or don't trust its source. Check the source (provenance) of files you download and make sure that an antivirus program has already verified the files at their source.

10. Make backups of important personal files (correspondence, documents, pictures and such) on a regular basis. Store these copies on removable media such as CD or DVD. Keep your archive in a different location than the one your computer is in.

Membersihkan Virus di Warnet Telkom Ploso :)

Alhamdulillah...
Setelah bertarung sengit dengan virus-virus di warnetnya Telkom Ploso, akhirnya kumenangkan pertarungan itu :) Yessss!!!

Ceritanya begini, hari ini dan seperti hari-hari sebelumnya aku surfing internet. Apalagi dapat kabar dari saudaraku kalau Telkom Ploso sudah membuka warnet. Katanya sih cepat dan murah. Di benakku sih mikirnya "secepat apa dan semurah apa sih?". Aku segera mencobanya hari ini dan targetku mah buka email (kalau tiba-tiba ada info tentang PMBR) dan blogging maintenance. Awalnya sih lumayan cepet, cuma setelah beberapa menit aku merasa komputer ini semakin lemot. Ada apa gerangan? Kubuka flashdiskku tak terdetaksi folder. Lalu tiba-tiba... hap... byar petttt. Restart :(

"Hehehe... ini pasti virus". Setelah itu aku ijin ke pegawai warnet untuk "bermain" sebentar dengan komputer ini untuk membersihkan virusnya. Alhamdulillah diijinkan :)

Seperti biasa, awalnya nge-cek dulu.

• Run hilang
• Ekstensi folder jadi .scr
• Task Manager tidak bisa diakses
• Registry Editor tidak bisa diakses (ya iya,, lha wong Run hilang **eits,, aku bawa sendiri Regedit-nya)
  
• Folder Option masih ada,, lho?!

Awalnya aku install antivirus lalu kurestart. Eh, antivirusnya hilang. Ya jelas, lha wong pakai DeepFreeze. :) Lalu, kucoba mematikan DeepFreeze, tapi programnya tidak ketemu. Kutanyakan ke pegawainya di mana tempat install DeepFreezenya. Beliau tidak tahu. Kucari di admin tidak ada. Hmmmm... Akhirnya main kasar dikit, mematikan dari XP Process Manager. Lalu kuinstall lagi antivirusnya. Aku pakai BitDefender Antivirus free v.10 (bukan iklan). Lalu, kuscan,, alhamdulillah ketemu 11 virus dengan file infected ada 98 buah. Kubaca ada yang moved to quarantine ada pula yang disinfected. Wah, ini masalah. kalau ntar direstart lagi,, yang dikarantina bakal lepas. Biar ah,, kan yang disinfected dah banyak. Yah, pokoknya aku dah pesan ke pegawainya biar nanti DeepFreezenya dihilangkan dulu, baru install antivirus dan scan. Baru DeepFreezenya dipasang lagi. Aku kan coba menghilangkan yang kubisa selesaikan. :)

Selanjutnya, kulihat di superhidden files, kutemukan salah satu virusnya. Hehehe997x... Akhirnya, kuhapus file-file aneh tersebut. Alhamdulillah, dah cukup bersih. Sekarang dah tidak lemot lagi :)

Launching GameSafe BitDefender

Nih, aku baru aja surfing dan dapat info baru. Si Softwin Corp telah mengeluarkan inovasi terbaru mereka terhadap sistem keamanan komputer. Kali ini, mereka melirik kancah game sebagai ladang bisnis.

Sebelumnya memang belum pernah kuketahui seputar keamanan online gaming yang di back up oleh inovasi dari sebuah antivirus. Memang, awalnya sih Softwin terkemuka dengan antivirusnya, BitDefender AntiVirus. Sekarang, sangat mungkin mereka akan terkenal lagi dengan gamesafer.
